Vernon Ray Compton

Our beloved Vernon Ray Compton, son of Bobby Ray Posey and Gladys Elizabeth Compton Perkins, was born June 23, 1955, in Henderson, Kentucky. He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Pleasant Union United Missionary Baptist Church.

Vernon was a devoted member of the Martindale-Brightwood community, where he served as Board President for two years and most recently as Board Chair of Community Affairs. He cared deeply about his neighborhood and worked tirelessly to make a positive impact on the community he called home. His commitment to serving others and improving the lives of those around him left a lasting mark that will not be forgotten.

Outside of his community work, Vernon enjoyed gardening, welding, and spending time helping family and friends. He was known for his willingness to tackle major projects, make household repairs, and offer support whenever it was needed. To his family, Vernon was a rock— often referred to as “The Fixer”. He was dependable, generous, and always ready to help. His strength, guidance, and caring spirit touched the lives of many.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Ray Posey and Gladys Elizabeth Compton Perkins; and brother, Larry J. Gray Sr.

He is survived by his brothers: William J. (Valarie), Alvin K. and Dale L. Gray (Angela); sisters, Linda M. Gaddis, and Shelia E. Shaw; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will cherish his memory.

Vernon will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. His legacy of service and generosity will live on in the many lives he touched.
