Tyler Lance Clayton

Tyler Lance Clayton brought light and joy into the world on May 1, 1989, when he was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to his proud parents James Clayton III and Tomie Louise Dabney. Tyler loved the Lord and accepted Christ as his Lord and savior at Zion Hope Baptist Church at a young age.

Tyler was an amazing young man. He was incredibly bright and always eager to learn. He received his education from Indianapolis Public School #91, Broad Ripple High School, and later earned his GED through Job Corps. His intelligence was matched by his golden personality. He was strong-willed, brave, loyal, and known for an infectious laugh and smile that could lift any room. His unique sense of humor often left those around him in tears of laughter.

Tyler was always full of energy. He loved sports and could often be found roughhousing with his siblings, cousins, and friends. He had a wide-ranging taste in music—from oldies to new school rap—and he enjoyed expressing himself through writing lyrics and raps of his own.

Above all, Tyler was the epitome of family-oriented. He had a heart of gold and was a natural protector. He made it a point to check in on his loved ones regularly with his signature, “How are you doing? Are you okay? I love you!” His love and loyalty were never in question—he gave both freely and abundantly.

On Sunday, April 27, 2025, Tyler completed his earthly journey and answered his Father’s call to return home to Heaven. He was welcomed with open arms by his Great-Grandmother Tomie Lee Conklin, Grandmothers Ethel Lee Dabney and Robbie Mae Clayton, his eldest brother Tyrone Allen Dabney, cousin Cameron Lee Gillard, Aunt Delores Dean Blaine, and Uncle Reggie Clayton.

Tyler leaves to cherish his memory his amazingly devoted parents, James Clayton III and Tomie Louise Dabney; his beloved siblings Jordan, Jamie, Courtney, and Shelby; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Although Tyler is absent in body, he remains present with us in spirit and is forever resting with our Lord.
