Thomas Michael Woods, affectionately known as Mike, passed away at midnight on April 5, 2024. Mike was born to Charles and Arletta Woods on May 24, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana where he lived his entire 67 years.
Mike was a 1974 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School. He developed a love of music and quickly learned to play guitar which he mastered and became one of the most accomplished and well know musicians on the Indianapolis music scene. He formed his own band in high school known as SRB (Soul Relation Band) which was his pride and joy. Mike didn’t stop at learning the guitar. He went on to teach himself to play keyboards, drums and sax, among other instruments. He owned his own recording studio, Woodshed Recording, and wrote and recorded many of his original tunes, as well as those of other artists.
Mike also worked as a laboratory analyst at EnerDel and the Prysmian Group testing samples for the production of ion batteries and the production of underground and submarine cables for the transmission and distribution of electricity respectively. While he enjoyed working in the lab, music was always his first love.
In 1990 Mike married his long time love, Connie Cosper. Even though they later divorced, they remained close and remarried on March 28, 2024.
Mike loved fishing, gardening and entertaining friends with a backyard barbecue. He was known for his barbecued ribs and pigs’ feet and heartily encouraged everyone to “at least try the pigs’ feet.”
Sadly, Mike was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Andrew. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife, Connie, his brother, Larry and his son Michael LaShawn Johnson, as well as many friends and colleagues. Mike also leaves behind his 3 grandchildren, 2 stepchildren and his goddaughter, Sierra Ewing.
Services will be held at Lavenia and Summers Home for Funerals on April 15, 2024 with a viewing from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and the funeral service at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to further the research in the fight against cancer.
