Shawnna Marie Robinson "Ona"

April 4, 1998 — October 18, 2022

Indianapolis, IN

Shawnna Marie Robinson entered the world on April 4, 1998 and was placed in the loving arms of her mother, Ada Janet Robinson two months later. She departed this life on October 18, 2022.

From an early age, Shawnna was a feisty, independent leader who was a fierce protector of her sisters – even though she was always the smallest of the bunch. Those positive characteristics followed her throughout life and her protective spirit extended to her nieces and nephews who she loved deeply.

Shawnna attended preschool at McKenzie Career Center and Kimberely McCullough’s childcare where she thrived. She then transitioned to Lawrence Township Schools and attended Amy Beverland Elementary, Belzer Middle School and earned her diploma from Lawrence Central High School. Shawnna was a cheerleader, performed in show choir, and on the dance team throughout her educational journey. She later attended Indiana State University and Fuqua Beauty Institute where she would have received her esthetician license in December 2022.

Early in her life, Shawnna was introduced to God. She was a member of Nu Destiny Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Jerome Taylor. It was at Nu Destiny where Shawnna preached her first sermon. She also attended the Rock Community Church under the direction of Bishop Leonard Scott. At both Nu Destiny and the Rock, Shawnna served on the dance ministries and participated in the choirs. One of Shawnna’s favorite gospel songs was “Yesterday.”

Shawnna was small, but mighty; outspoken, but reflective; tough, but very loving; beautiful on the outside, and beautiful on the inside. She was also adventurous, loyal, and always true to her authentic self. She lived life on her terms. Shawnna was a defender of many, but with her mother she could be vulnerable. Janet was always Shawnna’s refuge. Even as an adult, Shawnna would often put on her mom’s housecoat and bonnet and cuddle with Janet. Being in her mother’s arms was always a safe place for Shawnna.

Shawnna leaves a long list of loved ones who will miss her immensely including her mother, Ada Janet Robinson; father, Michael Swanson; grandmother, Patricia Rainey; sisters: Ashley, Kendra, Shavondah, Malia, Aleyah, Mariah, Lacey and Shawnna Jean; brothers: Keith, Timothy, Anthony, Eugene, Jonathan, Steve\n, Montel and Terrell; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
