February 19, 1949 — August 21, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Robert Earl Chambers was the youngest child born to the union of Robert Chambers and Louise Chambers on February 19, 1949. Both parents preceded him in death. As a young child, Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was a past member of Indiana Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. Robert M. Majors.

Robert attended Betty Mae Jacks High School in Morton, Mississippi, graduating in 1964. Following his high school completion Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 and fought against armed hostile forces in the Vietnam War. Robert earned a Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals for his heroism and bravery. Robert was honorably discharged from the military on September 17, 1970; a few years later he accepted a position with the United States Postal Service, where he retired in 2007.

On July 11, 1970, Robert was united in Holy Matrimony to Claudeen Flowers and from this union Robert and Claudeen were blessed with three wonderful children, Sharlet Denise, Robert Lawrence and LaShanda Deandra. Robert’s greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family. Robert was a lover of music, especially quartet gospel music and was a great singer.

He was an Indianapolis Colts fan and enjoyed watching games on Sunday afternoons while entertaining friends. Robert was known for being an amazing gardener and florist, he had a “green thumb” and had the best yard in his neighborhood. He had a great sense of humor.

In 1989, Robert joined Indiana Baptist Church where he served as a lead singer on the male chorus and a faithful member of the Baptist Choir. Robert loved serving the Lord, and he especially loved singing God’s praises. His favorite song was “I’m a Pilgrim” and his favorite singer and gospel group was Lee Williams, The Williams Brothers and the Mighty Clouds of Joy. Robert sung or hummed gospel songs continuously throughout the day.

Robert Earl Chambers departed this life on Saturday, August 21, 2021. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Claudeen; three children:  Sharlet Chambers, Robert Chambers and LaShanda Colvin (Darly); two brothers, David Chambers (Versie) and  Eddie Chambers (Vergie) who precedes him in death; three sisters: Daisy Chambers  Pace (Charles), Mattie Washington Chambers (Benjamin) and Letha Chambers Porter (Leon); five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
