Raymond L. Porter

August 25, 1959 — June 2, 2023

Indianapolis, IN

On a sweltering late summer day on August 25, 1959 in Indianapolis,
Indiana, God Blessed the late Jennie Jordan-Porter and Walter Lee
Porter with a beautiful baby boy whom they named RAYMOND
LEE PORTER. On June 2, 2023, God called His loving servant
home.
Raymond was educated in the Indianapolis Public Schools where he
attended IPS # 56. Raymond also attended Arsenal Technical High
School, and he later received his GED from Big Bend Community
College. Subsequently, Raymond enlisted in the United States Army
where he proudly served his country for three years before receiving
an honorable discharge. With a sense of duty and honor, Raymond
continued to serve another year in the Army National Guard Of
Indiana.
Raymond was employed in the Greater Indianapolis metro area as a
janitorial cleaner. Raymond’s entrepreneurial spirit and motivation
provided an opportunity for him to become a self-employed painter.
Prior to death, Raymond lived a resilient life. In his spare time,
Raymond enjoyed watching sports, classic movies, national news, and
grooving to the melodic sounds of classic soul music. Raymond also
enjoyed the pulsating beats of urban Hip Hop music. Raymond loved
to sit on his front porch and reminisce with his childhood friends. He
also enjoyed spending time with his favorite nephew Marlon.
Raymond will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Raymond’s trademarks included his affable personality and his
generosity to friends and family. After waging a courageous battle
with illness for many years, Raymond earned his heavenly wings on
June 2. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Walter and
Jennie Porter and his brother Robert L. Porter.
Raymond leaves to cherish and reflect his memories: his treasured
brother Phillip Porter and of Indianapolis, IN; cherished niece Tracey
Porter of Macedonia, Ohio; nephews: Robert Allen Huff Jr. of
Macedonia, Ohio; Marlon Porter ; Darrin Porter ; three special
cousins: Florence and Yuvette Ogan of Durham, NC and Gloria
Ussery of Kokomo, IN; and a host of loving cousins, neighbors and
friends
