Mattie Ida (Harris) Taylor

April 18, 1930 — November 24, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

MATTIE IDA TAYLOR was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 18, 1930 to her loving parents, Luster and Marvella Harris.

She received her education through the Indianapolis Public School system, grade school #26 and Crispus Attucks High School. She accepted Christ early in life and she was a member of New Bethel Church

MATTIE found the love of her life when she met Aubrey Taylor. They united in Holy Matrimony in 1946 and they were married for over 50 years.

She was employed with Hooverwood Living from where she retired after many years of dedicated service. Mattie loved music, dancing and playing bingo. Anyone that knew her, knew when you see her shoulders moving, feet tapping and them shoes coming off, it was time for her to get on the dance floor and move out the way as the “stage” was all hers.

MATTIE was a strong woman that knew she had strength enough for the journeys of life. She also knew how to keep her life in order. Even with tears in her eyes, she still managed to say, “I’m hanging in there,” with a smile.

MATTIE IDA TAYLOR departed this life on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at her home in Indianapolis, Indiana. We were blessed to be a part of her life that spanned for 91 years. Her father, Luster Harris; mother, Marvella Harris; son, Aubrey Taylor Jr.; daughters: Arletha Taylor Finney and Catherine Taylor; brothers, Walter Harris, Azel Harris and Leon Harris; and sisters: Jeanie Harris, Bonnie Harris and Audrey “Sister” Harris all preceded her in death.

She leaves precious memories to be cherished by her sons: Danny Taylor (Jane), Mark Taylor, Larry Taylor, Terry Taylor, Anthony Taylor and Robert Taylor; daughters: Susan Taylor and Darcell Taylor; twenty-eight grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, loving relatives and friends.
