Mary Florence Scott

Mother Mary Florence Miller-Scott was the third of nine children born to the late James and Sarah Florence Mapp-Miller. She entered this life on May 16, 1930, in Harris County, Georgia.

Mother Scott received her education through the Harris County School system. In the mid-1950s, Mother Scott relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she would build a strong foundation of faith, family, love, and service, and served her community as a dedicated Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was the proud mother of three children, who were truly her pride and joy: Frank Scott Jr. (Charlotte), Pastor Cynthia Pippens (the late Dr. Bishop Anthony Pippens, Sr.), and Keith Scott (Jill). Others to cherish her memory – Sister Deaconess Carrie Miller-Powell (Victor), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, church family and friends. She’s proceeded in death by four sisters, and three brothers.

A hardworking and faithful woman, Mother Scott worked various jobs over the years, including serving as a Dietitian at Methodist Hospital and with the Indianapolis Public School System, where she retired in 1994.

Mother Scott’s greatest devotion was her relationship with God. She was baptized and filled with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit at New Day Pentecostal Church on May 23, 1970, under the leadership of Bishop C. W. Turner, where she faithfully served in many areas including the Kitchen Ministry, Usher Board, and the Choir, and she later accepted the call to Missionary.

Later, she moved her membership to Greater New Hope Church, under the pastorate of her son-in-law, the late Dr. Bishop Anthony Pippens, Sr. There, she labored faithfully in various ministries, later becoming the only ordained Mother of Greater New Hope Church.

Mother Scott was a woman of wisdom and strength—known as a counselor, a devoted prayer warrior, and a constant encourager. Many would say she had a gift for lifting burdens and strengthening hearts. She was known to help anyone she could, and her life touched countless people, leading many to Christ through her steady example and loving spirit.

She also blessed many through her talents—she was an extraordinary cook and baker, and a skilled seamstress, known for her alterations and attention to detail.

But above all else, Mother Scott loved the Lord with all her heart, and she lived her life as a shining light of faith, kindness, and service.
