Mrs. Mary Virginia Richardson Hamilton Burton, the daughter of the late Basil T. Richardson and Jennie Ora Maxey Richardson was born July 14, 1947 in Glasgow, Kentucky.
She professed her life to Christ at an early age at the Church of the First-Born Saints in Tompkinsville, Kentucky.
“Momma” or “Nanna,” as she was affectionately known by nearly every child she encountered—whether family by blood or love—had a heart as big as her smile. Her joy was found in the simple pleasures: a lively game of Bingo, a spirited round of Tonk, and the soulful sounds of her favorite R&B group, The Manhattans, always playing in the background. Her warmth, laughter, and generous spirit created a home wherever she was, and her love touched countless lives across generations.
Mrs. Mary Virginia Burton departed this life on August 18, 2025, at the blessed age of 78 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred Burton Jr.; grandson, DeVon A. Highbaugh; siblings: Basil Richardson Jr., Louis Ray Richardson, Charlie Richardson, Pauline Chapman, Ronnie Richardson (Bill), Courtland Richardson, Jean Corwin , (Phil), LR Richardson (Lougene), Randall Richardson and Jo Lena Aldridge (John).
She leaves to celebrate her life, her daughters: Tyonia Potter (Dennis), Nicole, Highbaugh (Kennyne Washington Sr.) and Theresa Wyatt Hudson; sons, Antonio Hamilton Sr. (Lethrice) and Michael Hamilton (Gwendolyn Allen); sister; Verna L Moore (Clifton); 30 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; a host of loving family and friends.
Following the service, Alfred Burton Jr.’s urn will be placed to rest beside his beloved wife, Mary Burton, uniting them side by side in eternal peace.
