Leslie Ann Madry-Brown was born October 16, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born to Margaret Belle Singleton-Brown and Edward Guthrie Madry.
Leslie attended Indianapolis Public School # 63 and George Washington High School from where she graduated in 1976. She went to Clark College to study
to be a Nursing Assistant and received her Technical Certificate and attended Ivy Tech Community College to become a Medical Secretary. Leslie worked at
various Nursing Homes: St. Paul Baptist Nursing Home, Scott Manor Nursing Home and Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home to name a few. She also worked
at Winona Memorial Hospital in the Dietary department and at the Federal Building in the Social Security department.
Leslie married Kenneth Thurston Sr. in July of 1979 and to that union three children were born. She later married Sam E. Brown in April of 1989 and
became family with him and his six children.
She was raised up in the Baptist Church at St. Paul Baptist Church in Haughville. In much later years, Leslie was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit in 1979 at Christ Church Apostolic Faith, under the leadership of Bishop James E. Tyson. She later changed her membership to Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Assembly Inc in 1985, under the leadership of Bishop Benjamin T. Moore Sr., Bishop Byron V. Johnson and Bishop Charles M. Finnell. Through those years she served on the Baptismal Committee, as a Choir Member, Sunday
School member and worked in the Dining Room.
Leslie loved doing hair, sewing, reading the Word of God and various books. She also loved spending quality time with her husband, children and family.
Leslie loved writing poetry. Most of all she loved praising her God and often felt, “as long as God is in my life, I can make it.”
Leslie A. Brown departed this life on Monday, June 27, 2022. Her father, Edward Guthrie Madry; mother, Margaret Belle Singleton-Brown; four brothers: Gerald Henry Brown, Wendall Madry, Kenneth Paul Madry-Brown and Dennis “De-De” Maxwell; two sisters, Anita Louise Madry and Cynthia Marie Ross; and daughter, Shirley Jones all preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Sam E. Brown; daughters: Tyranny Thurston, Andria Burkett, Lakenya Brown, Sandy Walker and Evangeline Brown; sons: Kenneth Thurston Jr., Christopher Brown Sr. (Constance) and Anthony Brown Sr. (Alicia); sisters, Constance Jones (David) and Maria Jake (Joseph); brothers, Gary Madry and Jeffrey Madry; sisters-in-law, Altheria Madry and Sabrina Brown; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, Church family and friends.
