Juanita Mitchell

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4

A Time to Be Born: Juanita Officer Mitchell was the oldest of two children, born November 2, 1924, to the late Alfred C. Officer and the late Virgae Mae (Irwin) Officer. Her brother, Alfred C. Officer II, preceded her in death.

Juanita attended the public schools of Sparta and Cookeville, Tennessee, graduating in 1943. At an early age she confessed Christ and joined Kynett Chapel Church in Sparta, Tennessee. The Officer family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1943 where they would join Simpson Methodist Church, which would later become University United Methodist Church. At University, Juanita was a member of the Committee on Sacramental Life, United Methodist Women, and she also served as the Membership secretary until her health began to decline. Juanita was employed at Lane Bryant, retiring after thirty years. She was a lecturer for Weight Watchers and a branch manager for Sarah Coventry. She also worked for Lazarus Department stores, and retired from there after ten years of service, ending a long, productive work history.

A Time to Love: Juanita was united in Holy Matrimony to the late James E. Mitchell on September 4, 1949. They celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage. This union departed when James was called home in 2006.

A Time to Mourn: Juanita Officer Mitchell ascended at the age of 99 years, 11 months, and 22 days. Left with unforgettable memories are Barbara J. Patterson, Debra Hampton, and Arlene Pepper who were like special daughters she never had. Her loving nephew, Alfred C. Officer III, of Indianapolis, IN. Her special grandson, Brian Mitchell (Patricia) of Indianapolis, IN. Nieces Alicia D. Officer and Briana Officer of Ardmore, OK, nephews Alfred C.
