Joyce Rita Griffin, was born December 16, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Delores Blakemore-Campbell. Joyce was the eldest of seven children. Joyce was known for her nickname “Chicken” she was given because she LOVED her some CHICKEN.

Reflections of Moments in her Life

Joyce was educated in the IPS school system attending School #42 and graduated from Shortridge High School where she was a devoted student and cheerleader.  After high school she modeled for a local wig company in downtown Indianapolis. She worked in the financial industry at American Fletcher National Bank (AFNB) and Connecticut General (CIGNA) as a Claims Analyst. Joyce was a dedicated wife first to John Walker, Jr and then became the wife of Robert Griffin whom she was married to for 55 years. She attended Eastside Baptist Church and truly loved the Lord.

Joyce decided to take early retirement to pursue her #1 passion to be the caregiver/ babysitter for her grandchildren (Brandon and Mariah) because of course no one else could do a better job of providing the patience, love, stability, wisdom, and fun her grandchildren would need. She then continued years later to provide the same for her great grandson (Caidence) who truly brought the spirit of life into her home.

Although Joyce lived a simple humbled life, she ENJOYED and LOVED her family! She was a devoted and loving wife whose “HOME” and “CHILDREN” was her #1 priority. Her daughters were her best friends; they had a strong unbreakable bond. She taught her daughters to be what she called: Sister-Sister. She never wanted her daughters to leave her out even if it was a short trip to one of her favorite stores - Dollar General, she was always the first to be in the car.

Joyce was very particular about her style and mannerism. As most would say…Joyce was very traditional, classy, and generational. Her loving spirit and smile will never be forgotten by those who knew her and lives she touched.

Sunset

Joyce departed this life peacefully at home on January 22, 2024. Joyce was preceded in death by her mother (Delores Blakemore-Campbell), brother (Ronald Phillips), and brother (Mark Campbell).

Joyce leaves to cherish fond memories in the hearts of her beloved husband: Robert; children: Sherry, John and Sabrina; her loving grandchildren: Jerique, Brandon and Mariah; her adorable great grandchildren: Brandon Jr. and Caidence; father: James Campbell; sister: Betty Jo; brothers: Dennis, Jimmy, Quentin and David; and a host of loving relatives too numerous to name.
