Joann D Milton

September 5, 1950 — January 13, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Joann Milton (Harper) was born in Boise, Idaho on September 5, 1950, the only child of her loving parents, Elizabeth and Joseph Harper. The family later settled in Indianapolis, IN where she received her education and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1969. She worked at RCA but decided to follow her passion and further her education to earn her cosmetology license from the Madam CJ Walker beauty school. From there, her passion for all things beauty related blossomed. She became known to be an exquisite and sophisticated hair designer for over 30 years.

Throughout her years of being a professional beautician, she explored her love for travel. Joann had a zest for life and was open to adventure. She had the pleasure of living in various states and many surrounding areas. There, she had many wonderful and unforgettable memories.

Joann was a wonderful mother to four children: Lolita Campbell (Milton), Christian Harper, Jomika Thomas (Yowell), and Ericca Yowell. Joann was very loving and proud of her children. Joann’s love for her children was incomparable. Her love knows no boundaries or laws. It dares to go against everything else that is in its path. She also had 9 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. They were vessels of joy to her. She loved them unconditional but most importantly, showed them a grandmother’s love.

Although Joann created many joyous memories, her life was not free from hardships. But no matter what, Joann preserved. The spirit of the Lord shined throughout Joann consistently, no matter the circumstance. She always spoke of and kept her faith. She will be known by the strength she always exuded. She could make even the toughest of tasks seem simple.

Joann will be remembered by the love she gave to many people. To know her was to love her. There was never a friend she lost. She had such a beautiful spirit to match her beautiful smile. Always there to be an encouraging and supportive spirit. Not to mention, she would often make others laugh with her comical personality. Her energy and spirit drew you in to her infectious positivity and faith in the Lord.

Most importantly to Joann was her family. Joann spent many years helping to raise her grandchildren. One could even say that her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren meant the entire world to her. She was always there when anyone needed her, especially her grandkids. When Joann loved, she loved hard. Joann was truly one of Jesus’s earthly angels.

Joann was 70 years of age when she departed earthly life, gained her wings, and went home to Heaven to be with the LORD on January 13, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson (Michael Evans). To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her children: Lolita Campbell (David Campbell), Christian Harper, Jomika Thomas (Michael Thomas), and Ericca Yowell; grandkids: Raven, Davinique, Mekhi, Laila, Kristian, Davion, Jarell, Roddrick and Raniya, great grandkids: Lillian and Leilani and host of friends and extended family.
