JEROME THEODORE POWELL SR, was born the son of Otho Robert Powell and Izola Powell-Crosswright on May 30, 1953, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He grew up in Odessa, Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico. Growing up, he was a quiet child and liked doing the normal things little boys do with his older brothers. He was baptized into the Christian faith over 40 years ago and he held firm to his belief in the one true, all powerful God.
JEROME believed everyone should have a higher education and it didn’t always mean traditional college. After leaving high school, he independently made the life-changing decision to enroll in the Gary Job Corp vocational training program in San Marcos, Texas where he received both his GED and plumbing certification. He served his country in active duty in the United States Army from 1973 to 1979, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and training in Wheel Vehicle Mechanics. He continued to take advantage of training opportunities, also earning his forklift mechanic certification. He worked for Allis-Chalmers, General Motors and Ford Motor Company as a master mechanic. He retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years of service in the automotive industry.
JEROME had a vivid sense of humor and when he laughed it came from his gut. He often cracked himself up and whoever else was around too! He could rhyme anything he said to drive home a point and that skill made the many stories and lessons he shared stick. You could count on him to give it to you straight because that was the only language he spoke. Family was important to him and he loved going from state-to-state visiting his family and friends. He was always there to give of himself and for years he was the official family mechanic. Jerome loved to play dominoes and he rarely lost to anyone. He loved to fish, hunt and grill. His smoked brisket should have been marketed. He was good at whatever he set his mind to do and he always finished what he started.
JEROME THEODORE POWELL SR departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 7 days.
