JASON G. MASON “JAMA”
Jason Gardale Mason was born to Rosie Etta Mason, Thursday, November 30, 1972, at 11:30 am while living with her parents in Shreveport, LA. His biological father, Lester Paul Leonard also of Shreveport, LA. Jason was raised by his grandmother, Rosie Mae Mason while his mother served in the US Air Force until 1977. Upon leaving the military he and his mother moved to Houston, TX for one year then on to Dallas, TX.
In July of 1980 he and his mother relocated to Indianapolis, IN with family. Later uniting a blended family with Leon Summers and Sheree Summers. They resided in Marion County where he was educated in the Indianapolis Public School system and later the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township attending Lawrence Central High School.
He chose Jesus at an early age was baptized and united with the Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Stephen J. Clay where he remained a member until death.
Choosing to have his own family, Jason met and fell in love with life partner, Tonya Hill in 1990 and to that union raised three children, sons, Tamone Hill, JaMarco D. Mason and Tamara L. Mason. He worked in the Flooring and Manufacturing industry. He continued to be a loving and devoted father who loved life and cared about people. When health issues arose, Jason kept his faith and in January 2010 he was blessed with a new kidney. Afterward went on to achieve an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts from Ivey Tech Community College Chef’s Academy in 2012. Becoming Chef Jason “Jama” Mason who loved creating dishes and mixing spices for grilling.
Jason worked as a Chef in the Restaurant Industry of Indianapolis for several years until health issues returned. He then went back into the manufacturing field as a Sanitation Supervisor and Manager for PSSI. While getting his own catering business “Solid Taste Catering” off the ground.
Jason enjoyed cooking, traveling, spending time with family, playing card games and most of all playing dominoes. As the business was taking off and going well Jason’s health took a harsh turn. God decided he had run his race and finished his course good and faithful servant. Jason departed this life on Monday, September 23, 2024, 3:42 pm at the age of 51 years.
He is preceded in death by grandparents, Rev. Lessel Leonard, Rosie Mae Mason, Arblanchard Mason Sr., Bonus grandparents, Lee Summers, Anna Delores Summers, Stepmother Diane Leonard, Farther-in-law Isaiah Hill, Brother-in-law Corey White, and Sister-in-law Yolanda Hill-Brown.
Leaving to cherish his memory grandmother, Madrean Leonard, father, Lester P. Leonard both of Augusta, GA, parents Leon and Rosietta Summers of Keithville, LA, life partner, Tonya Hill, Mother-in-law Flora Hill, children, Tamone Hill, JaMarco D. Mason ( Justice), Tamara L. Mason (Christopher), brother Leon Terrence Summers, sister Sheree Summers-White of Indianapolis, IN, brother Lester Leonard Jr. of Houston, TX and sister Yulanda Lampkin of Pasadena, CA, and a host of Uncles, Aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. His grandchildren, Jaden Hill, Londynn Collins, Laiylah Gulley, JaMarrious Mason, and Lynnexx Gulley will carry on his legacy of hard work, determination, forgiveness, loving kindness and caring for others in years to come.
