Hilmer attended Harrison College where he earned a degree in Business Management.
Hilmer dedicated more than 30 years of service to the Indianapolis office of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, where he worked in check processing operations. Known for his gentle nature and kindness, he was deeply respected by both colleagues and management. Hilmer was an active participant in workplace events, where his love for dancing and his lively presence left lasting memories. Many of the friendships he built during that time endured long after the Bank closed its operations in 2004.
Hilmer’s last place of employment was Citizen’s Energy Group where he worked as a Customer Support associate. Hilmer brought a calm, steady presence to the team and always treated others with respect and appreciation. Hilmer was not only a dependable employee, but he was a good friend, a kind soul and someone who made a difference just by being himself. Always thoughtful, he became known for making sure the office was stocked with snacks and treats to brighten the workday and lift morale. His generosity and positive spirit left an indelible mark everywhere he worked.
Hilmer’s joy in life extended beyond the workplace. He loved attending concerts, gathering with family and friends, and enjoying brunch outings with his nephew, Anton Johnson. With his lively personality and commitment to bringing loved ones together, Hilmer was truly the glue of his family.
Raised by his loving parents, Hilda and Rudolph LaLand, Hilmer shared a close bond with his sister, Dalphia Johnson, and his brothers: Kevin, Lance, and Trent LaLand. He also cherished his lifelong friendship with his dear friend, Stan.
Hilmer will forever be remembered for his positivity, humility, and warmth. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the love he shared so freely.
He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers: Kevin, Lance, and Trent LaLand; nephews: Anton and Darian Johnson, and Ulen LaLand; nieces, Mercedes LaLand and Rashieta Woods; along with a host of loving relatives and friends. Affectionately known as “Uncle Lanny,” Hilmer’s spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
