Gwendolyn Spencer was born March 21, 1960 to Jurlie Enoch in Chicago, IL.  She was the youngest girl of her six siblings and was adopted by her maternal Aunt at a young age.  Gwendolyn grew and blossomed into the loving soul that everyone came to know as she attended school in Hammond, IN.  She began her education at Maywood Elementary; followed by Spohn Middle; and then graduated from Hammond High School.

Dolyn, as she liked to be called, at an early age naturally displayed a sense of genuine kindness and generosity to those in her life.  She had such an affectionate soul that had a special way to bring Sunshine to a dark room; laughter to the masses; and consoled the wounded at heart!  Gwen always had a word of encouragement for anyone who’d listen.  She also continued to shine her light by giving many joyful years of service to the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, and then the African Methodist Episcopal Church as she relocated to Indianapolis, IN.

Leaving to cherish her memory are her beautiful children Timothy Spencer (Akia), Christopher Spencer (Clarissa), and Tierney Dearon; her vibrant grandchildren whom she loved tremendously Todjane(17), Anderson(14), Chyna(13), Tyler(11), Khloe(10), and Julia(9); her loving siblings Bert Lawrence, Priscilla Lane Cox, Henry Carl Enoch, Marva Anthony, and Daniel Enoch; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that were dear to her heart! To know Gwendolyn was to know kindness, compassion and sincere concern, which she displayed at all times.

Gwendolyn Spencer passed peacefully January 12th, 2022 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN, surrounded by her loving Family during this transition.  Preceded by her Mother Jurlie Mae Enoch, adoptive Father John G. Spencer, Aunt/adoptive Mother Itelle Spencer, and Sister Shirley Enoch.
