George Mathel Ellis, also known as “Bee Bop Bunkum”, The World’s Most Talked About and Internationally known after a long fight passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 90 years young. As you all know, when you asked George his age he would laugh and change the subject.
George was born to Josie Ellis and Arthur Ellis, on October 21,1934 he grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended various public schools.
George married Mildred Arnett on November 10, 1958, to this union one son, Kenneth Wayne Ellis, was born.
At an early age George started working to support his family at General Motors, also known as Chevrolet Truck and Bus for 32 years and 11 months before retiring on March 1,1995.
George was always a carefree, energetic and charismatic young man who loved to sing and dance. You would often find him and his cousin, Charles Lewis “Plunkum”, whom everyone swore they were like twins they were the fierce, awesome twosome on Indiana Avenue always belting out tunes, dancing, hanging out at various venues, and just having fun throughout the years. As one would say causing “good trouble.”
George loved to box, he would often times meet with his good friend, Robert Lee Chambers, who was a well-known boxing champion and instructor in the Indianapolis area they would often revisit some of their great boxing encounters and experiences.
George loved to play chess, and he loved to pitch horseshoes at Riverside Park with his crew, he won various trophies from pitching horseshoes, and he loved to brag about being the winning horseshoe champion.
George was most passionate about his love for riding motorcycles, and he really enjoyed being part of his motorcycle clubs which included “The Black Angels” motorcycle club for years. This soon inspired him and his best friend, Joe B. to start their own motorcycle club called “The Interstate Riders” You could often hear him singing the Yamaha motorcycle song “Yamaha The Way It Should Be.” George also loved his Honda Gold Wing motorcycles, he would trade-in or sell his motorcycles just about every two years to upgrade to a different year and color.
George also loved his Cadillac cars and his fully loaded Vans, he would often keep a new vehicle which he would use to travel often to New Albany, Louisville, KY, Tennessee, Atlanta, and Michigan to visit family and friends and attend various motorcycle events.
George loved going to his men’s worship service and he loved going to church when he was not sick and able to attend services. When people would ask George how he was doing you would often hear him laugh and say, “I am doing without can you help me out.”
George is preceded in death by his mother, Josie Deboe; father, Arthur Ellis; former wife, Mildred Arnett Ellis; and son, Kenneth Ellis “Peanut”.
George is survived by his daughters: Sherita Byrdsong-Edwards (Donald Jr.), Renee Harrington-Moore and Donna Butler; son, Vincent Ellis “Porky”; grandchildren: Raqueiya Thomas-Miller, Sheraun Byrdsong, Christopher Moore, Cherrelle Moore, Tyla Ellis, KeAron Fields, Andre Fields, Brian Glenn and Tiffany Wilford; great-grandchildren: Jason Hibbitt, JaRon Miller, Denim Moore, Jayden Jones, Legend Izir Ellis, Tre’Shown Fields, Adonijah Fields, Natalia Glenn, Judah Fields, Ariya Callahan, Thalia Glenn, Rihanna Glenn, Xavier Wilford and Andrea Fields; plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many more loving extended family members and special friends.
