George E. Brown Sr.

George Edward Brown Sr. was born April 30, 1940, in Money, Mississippi to Andrew Phillip Brown and Ida Mae (Frazier) Brown McSwine. He was raised by his mother and bonus father, Sammy D. McSwine. George moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1946 where he grew up on the south side. He attended Indianapolis Public Schools #26 and #53; school #19 for Junior High School and he concluded his education by graduating from Harry E. Wood High School. George was gifted in working with cars and he worked several jobs in that area, but he ended his career working for Ryders Trucking Company.

George was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his family, especially his sister, Eloise and his brothers: Andrew, Marion, Sammy, Lewis, Melvin and Leviticus.

On June 15, 1968 George was united in Holy Matrimony to Louvenia Sharp and the two of them reared a beautiful, blended family. Both George and Louvenia brought three children to the marriage: Patricia Ann, George Jr., Damon, Donald, Larry and Sara Lynn.

George’s faith was always a major part of his life. He used his faith to govern his life as well as the life of his family. George joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. Z. P. Pittman. He always served wherever there was a need. He started his service in the Tabernacle Youth Choir and Sunday School. George’s love for God and the church compelled him to partake in many ministries. He was a Sunday School teacher for the young males of the church where he made a tremendous impact to this present day. He was also a bus driver, an usher, a male chorus member, a Sunday School teacher, a church Trustee and his most desired ministry, Sunday School Superintendent. George served Tabernacle faithfully until his brother, Melvin McSwine was called to the ministry, and George went to support him, but when Rev. McSwine, passed away, George returned to Tabernacle and continued being a faithful servant until his health started to deteriorate.

George departed this life Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Arlington Place Rehabilitation. He was preceded in death by his mother: Ida Mae Brown McSwine; bonus father, Sammy D. McSwine; daughter, Sara Lynn Sharp; two sons, George Jr. and Donald; sister, Eloise McSwine; four brothers: Andrew Brown, Marion McSwine, Sammy McSwine and Melvin McSwine.

George leaves to cherish and celebrate his memories his beloved wife, Louvenia; daughter, Patricia Norfolk; two sons, Damon Brown and Larry Brown (Deborah); two brothers, Lewis McSwine (Bonnie) and Leviticus McSwine (Oits); twelve grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

George’s favorite scripture was Psalms 1 for he felt strongly about making decisions about how he wanted to serve his life. George chose the way of the Lord which explains why he would always give the same response whenever he was asked how he was doing. He would always respond: “I’m Blessed by the Best and You Know the Rest”.
