Frances Dunlap Evans was born on October 26, 1945, to Shed Dunlap Sr. and Ethel Lee Ballard Dunlap in Minter City, Mississippi. As a young girl, her family relocated to Kingsford Heights, Indiana, where she was raised alongside her 11 siblings in a home filled with love, faith, resilience, laughter, and a deep appreciation for family. It was also in Kingsford Heights where Frances met the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Calvin “Babe” Evans. Frances and Calvin were married in the summer of 1966 and remained inseparable until his passing in 2021. Together they built a beautiful life grounded in the values they learned from their upbringing in their small community — faith, commitment, hard work, and family. Their loving union was blessed with two children, Robyn Evans-Long (Kevin) of Fishers, Indiana, and Rodney Evans (Tamea) of Louisville, Kentucky.Throughout her life, Frances was known for her warmth, strength, generosity, and vibrant spirit. In the early 1980s, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming an entrepreneur by completing cosmetology school and opening her own salon, The Hair Wizard. As the proud owner and sole proprietor, Frances built a successful business and maintained a loyal clientele for more than 30 years. Her beauty shop became more than a place for hair care — it was a gathering place filled with conversation, laughter, encouragement, and community. Frances never met a stranger and had a special gift for making people feel welcomed and cared for. She also expressed her love through food, fellowship, and family gatherings, becoming known for the meals and desserts that brought everyone together around the table. Whether at the card table, attending family reunions, or simply surrounded by loved ones, Frances brought joy, wisdom, humor, and unforgettable energy wherever she went. Her faith remained an important part of her life. She accepted Christ at an early age and worshipped faithfully throughout the years at First Baptist Church of Kingsford Heights, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Michigan City, and later Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church after relocating to Indianapolis to be closer to family. On Monday, May 18, 2026, at the age of 80, Frances answered the Master’s call and entered eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Calvin Evans; her loving parents; sister Alfredia Dabney (Lee); brothers Shed Dunlap Jr. (Jean); Roger Dunlap; William Garrett; Herman Earl Dunlap; Eric Scott Dunlap; and Mitchell Flynn Dunlap.Among those left to cherish her beautiful legacy are her daughter, Robyn Evans-Long (Kevin) of Fishers, Indiana; her son, Rodney (Tamea) Evans of Louisville, Kentucky; siblings Alma “Raye” Bynum (Lester), Larry Dunlap (Jenice), Cheryl Boiser, and Orlando “Lamar” Dunlap (Joy); one sister in love - Sharon Dunlap; six grandchildren — Raven Cash (Lorenzo), Syandene Evans, Nigel Long, Danielle Long, Raechel Long, and Calvin Evans; six treasured great-grandchildren — Nyla Cash, Jamison Long, Denver Cash, Khari Cooley, Yara Cash, and Cassius Morgan; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her love, kindness, wisdom, and unforgettable spirit.Frances will forever be remembered for her strength, her laughter, her honesty, her style, her faith, and the unconditional love she poured into her family and community. Her legacy will continue to live on in every life she touched.
