In Loving Memory of Elizabeth Jernigan

 Elizabeth Shufford was born on January 8, 1945, in Montgomery, Alabama to Luke and Alberta Shufford. She was the 4th youngest of thirteen siblings. At an early age, Elizabeth accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized Village First Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana.

 Elizabeth was affectionally known as Liz to her family and friends. She graduated from Calumet High School in Gary, Indiana and was licensed as a CNA. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Paul Roger Jernigan in 1964 for 52 years. After marriage, Liz and Paul moved to Chicago, Illinois to raise their family. From their union, they were blessed with four children, Paula Elizabeth, Phillip Roger, Pamela Ebony and Phonecia Ra-Chaun Jernigan.

 Liz lived a full life. She was a fulltime homemaker. Liz was a proud mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid cook and loved hosting family and friends for the holidays and on special occasions. During her life, she impacted many who she encountered. Her presence was undeniable, and her candor was often unescapable; however, she will truly be missed by those who knew her best, her family and friends.

 Liz was proceeded in death by her parents, Luke and Alberta; siblings, Rodell, Robert, Anell (Morris), Elliot, Eddie Lee, Joseph and Eddie; daughter, Pamela Ebony Jernigan and husband, Paul Roger Jernigan.

 Elizabeth departed this life on July 7, 2024. Liz leaves to cherish her loving memory daughters, Paula Elizabeth and Phonecia Ra-Chaun Jernigan; son, Phillip Roger Jernigan; sisters, Margaret Shrunder and Mary Shufford; grandchildren, Paris, Candace, Hope, Noriel; and a host of relatives and friends.
