In Loving Memory of Donna Jean Flemister
November 17, 1962 – September 17, 2026
Donna Jean Flemister was a woman of faith, strength, and generosity. She could make you laugh, laugh at herself, and speak plainly about the things that mattered to her. She cared deeply about her family, her community, and the children whose lives she touched through her work in education.
Donna graduated from North Central High School in 1981. She attended Indiana State University for a short period before transferring to Wilberforce University, where she graduated in 1987. She continued her education at Butler University, earning a master’s degree in education administration in 2001. Donna worked in the Indianapolis Public Schools system as a teacher and vice principal. After graduating from Butler, she became the principal of a charter school. Throughout her career, she gave generously of her time and talents to help children learn and grow.
Donna was raised by two loving parents who taught her about Christ and instilled in her a deep love for Him. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and continued to learn about the Lord at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was active in youth ministry, helping with fundraisers and car washes. While attending Wilberforce University, she encouraged fellow students in their faith and attended weekly Bible studies offered by the Church of Jesus in Springfield, Ohio.
Donna faced health challenges, some of which she kept private. She believed God had a wonderful plan for her and that her journey would become her testimony. She enjoyed fashion and had a special love for flowers, including sunflowers. Donna brought warmth and brightness into the lives around her.
Donna was especially proud of her nieces Diadra Maddox and Faith Austin as they pursued graduate education in mental health. She was also proud of her nephew Kerry Austin Jr. and his work in the medical field. Her nephew Rashad Adams lives in California and works in the security field. Donna cherished the cousins she was close to and the dear friends who shared her life.
Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Flemister; her father, Dell Flemister; and her brother, Dell Flemister Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her two sisters, Darlene Brandon (Kenneth Brandon Jr.) and Lafran Flemister-Young (Melvin Young); her two nieces, Diadra Maddox (Iann Maddox) and Faith Austin; her nephews, Kerry Austin Jr. and Rashad Adams; and her beloved cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
We will remember Donna’s humor, her generosity, her strength, and her steadfast faith. We thank God for her life and for the love she gave us.
