Dewitt Walker, one of seven children, was born October 12, 1932 in West Point, Mississippi to the late Anderson and Mary Lou Walker. He accepted Christ at an early age as a teenager.

He was inducted in the United States Army on September 26, 1952 and upon his return on December 19, 1956 he was united in Holy Matrimony to his lifelong partner, Earlene Patrick.
