Deneen “Dee Dee” Christie-Baxter was born to the union of Bobby L. Christie and Thelma L. Christie in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Deneen is a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. She received her education in the Indianapolis Public Schools, Harshman Middle School # 101 and Arsenal Technical High School. At an early age, she professed to hope in Christ and attended Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Deneen was employed at Industrial Laundry until they closed, and later Mechanics Laundry for years.
In 1982, Deneen met and fell in love with Bobby Nichols, they were together for twenty years. On September 6, 2002, Deneen married the second love of her life, Edward Baxter.
Dee Dee loved spending time with family and friends. She loved being outdoors, grilling, cracking jokes, and dancing. In fact, she could do the split better than anyone in the family. She was always the life of the party. She was famous for her Chilli and Beef Stew. Dee Dee’s infectious smile was so pleasant and genuine that it made other people around her want to smile too, as her oldest sister, I recall her looking up at me, squeezing my hand when I visited her, with a big smile on her face. Her smile will never be forgotten. Dee Dee was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Her warm, friendly smile and pleasant personality made her a favorite to all.
Deneen departed this life on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Envive Healthcare of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby L. Christie and Thelma L. Christie.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two daughters, LaTonya Christie and Myisha Newman; two sons, Keaune Christie (Misty) and Lonnie Newman; siblings: Jacquelon Hill (Alton), Frederick Sargent (Mary), Kevin Ivey (Tauri), Renita Christie, Antoine Christie, Tosha Christie, Nicole Christie-Stewart, an Bobby “Lamont” Christie-Cecil (Wachell) of Kentucky; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
