DaShawn Darwin Drye

DaShawn Darwin Drye was a father, son, grandson, brother, Godson, cousin, and friend. On July 14, 2025, the world lost a bright light—but heaven gained a voice that will never be silenced. Though only 25 years old, DaShawn’s spirit, his music, and his unforgettable smile still live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

Born on December 6, 1999, in Indianapolis, Indiana, DaShawn was the beloved son of Tanna Drye and Darwin Lewis. From a young age, it was clear he carried wisdom, creativity, and depth far beyond his years. He earned his GED and accomplished a great deal in his life.

DaShawn accepted Christ as a child and, and as he matured, he began a deeper spiritual journey that shaped the way he lived. He loved playing the drums, gaming, working hard at Department of Public Works (Crew #240116), and spending peaceful, meaningful time with his family.

He was a gifted rapper with a sharp mind and a spiritual soul. Through his lyrics, DaShawn told stories that uplifted others and reflected truths that resonated deeply. His music was not just a passion, it was ministry, healing, and hope.

Above all else, DaShawn’s greatest joy was being a father. The love he had for his son, Ky'Aire, was boundless. He was deterimned every day to be an example of strength, resilience, and faith—showing that a good heart and a grounded spirit could carry you through any storm.

He leaves behind his son, Ky'Aire Drye; mother, Tanna Drye; father, Darwin Lewis; siblings: DaQuan Drye, Javanta Phillips, and Emone Drye; grandparents, Elmer Drye and Marcia Lewis; Godfathers: William Kennedy, David Dycus, Glen Yancey, and Joseph Yancey; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, loving family, friends, and supporters whose lives were made brighter by his presence. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Vicki Billingsley.

Though Dashawn’s time on earth was brief, his impact will never fade. His music (“6-4”), his love and wisdom remind us to live boldly, speak truthfully, and cherish every moment. He showed us that faith and passion can move mountains—and his story now challenges us to carry his light forward.
