Clarissa Ann Rhodes McGuire was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 10, 1937. At the time of her death, she was 88 years old. Clarissa was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Ann Hutchins Rhodes and Thomas Rhodes, her sisters Alma Neal and Phyllis Sanders, her brother Thomas Rhodes, Jr. and her husband, Melvin McGuire Jr.
“Rissy” as she was known to family and friends attended IPS School #37 and Arsenal Technical High School. Rissy later graduated from Poro Beauty College, where she pursued her love of doing hair—something she had done since she was a child. On March 29, 1960, she was united in marriage to Melvin McGuire, Jr. To that union four children, Edrice, Stacy, Sidney and Rikki were born.
Rissy professed her love of Christ early in life and was a member of St. Paul AME Church and later Forest Manor United Methodist Church.
Rissy was a lifelong beautician, still doing hair up until months before her death. She worked at several local salons, including Eleanor’s, Nate's, Hair Flair and Fashions in Hair.
Rissy led a long, full life. As a teen and young adult, Rissy enjoyed roller skating and later she became passionate about traveling especially to Las Vegas. Rissy loved decorating and entertaining in her beautiful home. She also loved trips to Anderson, Indiana to the casino! Rissy was an excellent cook and loved learning new recipes that she couldn't wait to share with all the members of her family.
Rissy has left to mourn her sisters, Nancy Foster, Theresa Johnson and Mary Rowley (Virgil), children Edrice McGuire-Coleman, Stacy McGuire (Denise), Sidney McGuire and Rikki McGuire, grandchildren Lauren and Erin Coleman, Stacia Hickman (Corey), Sydney Steele, Jordan Bryant and Jarrett McGuire, great-grandchildren Braydon and Bryant Oubre, Elijah Coleman, Courtney and Corey Whitley, Jr., Caleah Blackwell and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
