Catherine Conn, the fourth child of Miles and Joella (Morton) Samuels, was born October 20, 1923 in Trenton, Kentucky.
She also was preceded in death by siblings James Edwards, Alberta Wilson, Amy Burrus, Miles Samuels, George Samuels, Charles Samuels, John (Billy) Samuels, Dorothy Gaines.
Catherine attended and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1946 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
In 1948, Catherine met Foster D. Conn and they were united in Holy Matrimony. One son, Foster D. Conn Jr., was born to their union.
After moving to Indianapolis, Catherine worked for the Wash Rite Glove Factory for several years. She then decided to begin her Cosmetology career and graduated from Poro Beauty School in 1962. In 1964 Catherine opened her own hair salon, Conn’s Beauty Shop. She had numerous customers which included relatives, neighbors, church members, and local politicians. She finally retired in 2008 after many years of providing that famous shampoo, press and curl.
Catherine professed her love for Christ at the age of 15. In 1947 Catherine joined St. John A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. David Mitchum. She loved her church family. She was a member of the Senior Choir, Women’s Missionary Society, Lay Organization and the Sunday School Bible Class.
Catherine had a loving heart for family, always hosting Holiday gatherings.
Catherine is survived by her son, Foster D. Conn Jr (Terri); granddaughter, Lakesha Franklin (Gary); great granddaughter, Keyada Conn; sister, Mary Elizabeth Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. She also had a very special bond with her niece, Mary Estella Justice Conner.
