Carolyn R. Thruston

CAROLYN RENEE THRUSTON was born on January 7, 1954, in Owensboro, Kentucky. She was the 6th of 8 children born to Willie Dean Thruston and Mary Emily Thruston. Carolyn professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized in Owensboro.

Carolyn moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1964 with her mother Mary and two of her 7 siblings, Brenita and Charles. Carolyn continued her education in the Indianapolis Public Schools System. In her early teenage years, you could find Carolyn skating on Saturday mornings at Schofield and at the Sunday night dances at St. Rita’s.

Carolyn graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences from Indiana Vocational Technical (Ivy Tech) College’s HVAC program in May 1992 and was employed by United Technologies Carrier Corporation for many years until her retirement.

Carolyn had many interests. She enjoyed playing cards, Dad and Bid Whist to be exact, and her favorite thing to watch on TV was Chicago steppers, two-stepping to good music. Carolyn loved the presentation of food. She went to culinary school and entertained with her infamous soups and charcuterie boards, (better known as meat, cheese, and fruit trays), before they were popular. Most of all, Carolyn loved hats and music. If she was on the scene, she had on a hat and she often threatened to ruin suburban neighborhoods while cruising through with her loud bass.

Carolyn departed this life on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the age of 71 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings and her first born son, Marcel D. Thruston.

Carolyn will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind, her baby boy, Brandon D. Thruston; sister, Brenita E. Malone; brother, Charles C. Thruston; half-sisters, Karla and Sallie Thruston; four grandchildren: April Patton, Marcel Patton, Aonyeigh Thruston and Elijah Thruston; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins
