Obituary

BOBBY E. DAVIS, a man of faith, impeccable style, and a heart large enough to encompass a vast village of family and friends, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, February 21, 2026. Surrounded by the family he loved so dearly, Bobby concluded a courageous battle with health challenges, leaving behind a legacy of grace and compassion.

Born on May 16, 1949, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Mary E. Davis and Theodore Talley, Bobby’s journey was one of constant growth and service. A proud graduate of Shortridge High School, he later moved to Streamwood, Illinois, where he earned his associate degree from Elgin Community College and was recognized for his academic excellence as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Bobby’s professional life was defined by his natural ability to lead and mentor others. During his 20-year career with AT&T, he rose quickly from a Training Manager to a supervisory role, traveling extensively to shape the next generation of management. Even in “retirement,” Bobby’s work ethic and love for people kept him active. He joined the Target Corporation as a Training Manager and followed a personal interest to become a barista at Starbucks, where his warm personality and sharp mind made him a favorite among colleagues and customers alike.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life. As an active member of Trinity CME, Bobby served with joy—whether he was greeting congregants as an usher or lifting his voice in the Trinity’s Choir. He didn't just attend church; he lived his faith through action and community.

Beyond his accomplishments, Bobby will be remembered for the “spark” he brought to every room. He was a master in the kitchen, known for hosting “awesome” meals that brought people together. He was a gifted dancer and a man of extraordinary style; many in his life attribute their own fashion sense to Bobby’s influence. He was always the sharpest-dressed man in the room, carrying himself with a dignity that inspired others.

More importantly, Bobby was the “steady rock” for his family. As a partner, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend, he was a patient listener and a source of sound, gentle advice. To know Bobby was to be truly seen and heard.

Waiting to welcome him home are his parents, grandparents, and brother, Sylvester E. Baker.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by Mr. Randall Rector; siblings: Gwendolyn Anderson, Teresa Bledsoe (Donald), Vincent Baker, and Theodore Talley (Shannon); first cousins: Angela Holman (Dale), Pamela Bennett (Bruce), Cecelia Murphy (Gary), Keith Cole, and Dean Cole (Ruth); Godchildren, Olivia Bennet and Gary Cole; additionally he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, foster brothers, cousins, and friends who were lucky enough to call him their own. Bobby’s love and sincere affection will live forever in our hearts, comforting us as we walk the path he helped light for us
