Betty Mae Jones

MOTHER BETTY MAE JONES was born to Ed and Savanna Johnson, who preceded her in death. She was raised in Lena, Mississippi by her dad, Ed Johnson “Papa” and his wife, Emma Johnson “MaEmma”.

In 1950, Mother Betty and her husband, Curtis Williams, who preceded her in death, moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. To this union, eleven children were born.

She was a faithful member of the Church of God in Christ. She attended Sanders Temple, under the leadership of Elder James L. Sanders; Compassion Temple, under the leadership of Elder Wynn Samuels, and later Assembly of Faith, under the leadership of Elder Jimmie Williams. She was a God-fearing woman that loved and adored the Lord. She believed prayer could conquer all. Strong faith, she endured. Later in life she wedded Earl E. Jones, who also preceded her in death.

Mother Betty loved her family. She loved cooking for them, giving them tight hugs and kisses and praying for them. She excelled in business and had many entrepreneurial endeavors. Aunt Shug was one of the founding cooks for Kountry Kitchen, alongside
her baby sister, Miss Jessie. She loved singing her congregational songs and singing with the spirit of God.

Mother Betty was a wonderful caring mom, loving all her chaps, five of which, preceded her in death: Ida Faye Spears, Betty Carol Anderson, Kathy Davis, Darrell Williams and Johnny Williams.

Mother Betty was also preceded in death by her three sisters: Maudie Henson, Floyd Washington and Jesse White; and five brothers: Charlie, Will, Johnny, Sanders and Benjamin Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memory four sons: Curtis, Elder Jimmie (First Lady Shirley), Joseph K. (Lori) and Samuel Williams (Kelly); three daughters: Linda Allen (Willie), Vanessa Williams (Ronald) and Nicole Williams; a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, special nieces and nephews, family and friends.
