Annie Mae Jones, 84, the beloved matriarch of the Jones family was born May 4, 1941, in Holly Springs, MS to the late Augustus Tuggles and Ressie ‘Maw’ Tuggles. Ms. Annie or ‘Annie Mae’ as she was known, maintained her kindness, grace compassion appreciation of beauty and the love of her friends and family. Ms. Annie was employed by White Castle at 38th and Keystone for 27 years. It was through dedication and hard work that Ms. Annie achieved management status upon her retirement. Ms. Annie was an exemplary employee that proudly never missed a day of work and was never late!
Annie was the heart of the Jones family. Annie’s kitchen was the place where magic happened for Sunday dinners, holiday celebrations, and impromptu family meals. Annie’s cooking was legendary, mac-n-cheese, beef and turkey dressing, and hot water cornbread just to name a few. Annie had a knack for remembering every birthday, anniversary, and important dates in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Never failing to give a card, gift, or make a call.
Annie Mae passed away on May 5, 2025, peacefully in the comfort of her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Lee Ester ‘Bay’ Jones, daughter Effie Mae ‘Horn’ Jones and granddaughter Whitney Tomaezsha Jones.
Annie is survived by her four children: daughters Ernestine ‘Tine’ Craig, Dyian ‘Dyi’ Jones, Darlene ‘Dolly’ Jones and one son Charles ‘Charlie’ (Diana) Jones, one brother James ‘Bill’ Tuggles of Holly Springs, MS, twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. A host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, customers and the coffee drinkers from White Castle!
