In Loving Memory of Anna May Davenport
Anna May Davenport, 76, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026. Born on June 28, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Anna was the beloved daughter of Chester and Lucretia Smith and one of ten children.
Anna attended Manuel High School and was married to her husband, Robert Davenport, for 44 years. Together, they raised their three children, Tiffany, Jason, and Leslie, building a home rooted in love, faith, and family.
Throughout her life, Anna worked a variety of jobs, but she especially cherished her time at Wishard Hospital, where she formed many lifelong friendships. She later retired from the Marion County Sheriff's Office after years of dedicated service.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Anna found strength and comfort in prayer and the reading of her Bible. She lived her faith through her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love for others. She treasured family gatherings, especially in the early years, and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome in her home. Whether hosting family and friends, playing cards, or watching her favorite "stories," Anna found joy in life's simple moments and in bringing people together.
Anna was a proud and devoted Nana to seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense happiness to her life. She was the very definition of strength, resilience, forgiveness, and understanding. Her quick wit, infectious laugh, and radiant smile could brighten any room, and her loving spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Lucretia Smith; her beloved daughter, Tiffany Lawyer; her brothers, Jimmy, David, Chester, Billy, and Michael Smith; and her sisters, Sonja Pierce and Catherine Smith.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Robert Davenport; her son, Jason Smith and his wife, Kelly Smith; her daughter, Leslie Davenport; her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; her siblings, Gloria Solomon and Paul Smith; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
