Mother Alberta Winbush-Benson was born December 11, 1933, to Rosa Duella and William Henry Swanson in Athens, GA. She received her elementary education at St. James Baptist School in Athens, GA. In 1951, she graduated from Athens High School and Industrial School.

In 1965, under the pastorate of Bishop Morris Golder, Mother Alberta was saved and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at Grace Apostolic Church. In 1973, she moved her Church membership to Christ Temple Church. In 1976, she followed Bishop James Tyson to Christ Church Apostolic, where she served as an Usher, Usher Board President and she was on the Mother’s Board. She loved her church, and she was loved by all the Saints of God.
