Steven L. Wilson

Steven “Steve” Laineer Wilson (affectionately known as “S.L.” by his family and friends in Texas) was born April 25, 1934 to Justice James and Lula Roberson Wilson in Palestine, Texas; he was the 10th of 11 children.  Steve graduated from Lincoln High School in Palestine, and following his graduation worked for the Atlanta Life Insurance Company in Palestine. He relocated to Indianapolis to complete an apprenticeship under his brother, Ozzie Wilson, where he learned and honed his skills in electronics technology.  Steve eventually ventured out and established Boulevard Radio & Television, which he owned and operated for over 50 years.

 

Steve was an avid athlete; he competed in various sports and activities throughout his life, including semi-professional volleyball, biking, running and stair-climbs.  He traveled throughout the country to compete in races and stair-climb competitions, often placing first or second place.  He remained physically active into his early 80’s. He also enjoyed photography and fishing.

 

Steve married Dorris Mallory on June 1, 1955, and to this union two sons and one daughter were born.  Steve and Barbara Jean Russell were united in matrimony on June 25, 1967 and were blessed with one son and one daughter.

 

Steve passed away June 28, 2021 at the age of 87.  He was preceded in death by his father, Justice James Wilson, mother, Lula Roberson Wilson; brothers: Clarence, Garland, Jerome, Charles and Ozzie Wilson, and sisters: Connie Wilson Yearwood, Rev. Jerutha Wilson Calhoun, Hattie Wilson Moore and Dorothy Wilson Williams.

 

Steve is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Wilson; five children: Steven (Miranda) Wilson, Sherree Wilson, Kevin (Susanne) Wilson, Corey (Nichole) Wilson and Crystal (Demetria Bright) Wade; seven grandchildren: Kyle, Kimberly, Kerstine, Marissa, Rachael, Khyree, and Nahla; one great-granddaughter, Layla; brother, Winston Wilson of Palestine, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
