Shirrin Ann (Tarver) Sublett

February 23, 1953 — August 9, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Shirrin Ann Sublett, better known as “Shirrie”, was born on February 23,1953 in Phenix City, Alabama. She was the daughter of late Arlene and John Tarver.

She was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, IN. She always wanted to be a flight attendant and obtained her traveling degree from Midwest Career College in 2014.

Shirrie knew and loved the Lord personally. There was not a time she was not talking or giving a testimony of how good the Lord is and has been to her.  She received the holy ghost and accepted God as her Savior at the age of 33 on June 3,1986 at her home church Grace Apostolic Church.  Shirrie loved her church home, she felt at peace and had so much joy being at Grace.

She worked many years at Wishard Memorial Hospital until she transitioned to work for the Indiana Women’s Prison. Shirrie was an Honor Guard and took great pride in being a Correctional Officer.

Shirrie had a general love for looking after people, she loved helping people in any way she could. Shirrie had a very compassionate heart and spirit, children loved her to great lengths and would call her “Grandma” when they saw her, and she was loved by all she met.

Shirrie loved spending time with her family and going to outings. She really loved making the family laugh at her stories as well as talking about God and how good He is. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, reading her bible and listening to gospel music. Shirrie had a unique way to make people laugh no matter what, to where they would say “I just love your Momma!”

Shirrin Ann Sublett transitioned to her Heavenly Home on Monday, August 9, 2021. Preceding her in death are her mother, Arlene Tarver; father, John Tarver; brothers, Bobby L. Chambers and Johnny Lee James; and grandmother, Sarah Chambers.

Shirrie leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Aretha Hill and Ashley Sublett; grandchildren, Mickala Fields, Davon Burnett and Desirae Thomas; sisters: Glenderafa “Dee” Chambers, Latanya Nichols (Michael), Yawerent “Binky” Gordon and Margaret LeFlore; brothers, James Chambers and Derrick Tarver; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews who loved her.
