Robert (Sonny) Rutland was born February 13, 1940 in Indianapolis, IN to Frank Wills and Carrie Rutland. He departed this life on Friday, February 12, 2021 at home surrounded by family.
Sonny attended Indianapolis public schools and worked at Ford Motor company retiring after 30 years. After retiring Sonny begin doing the things he enjoyed like golfing and traveling with friends and family.
Sonny was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer in 2004 but he continued to enjoy life and his family for 17 years before succumbing to his disease.
Sonny leaves to cherish and celebrate his memory his stepmother Alice Wills, three sisters, Ruth O’Banion, Carmen (Karl) Glass, and Sherry Boyd. Four sons, Jeffery (Anita) Thomas, Robert Rutland, Richard (Audrey) Rutland and Jamal (April) Hughes. Four Daughters, Barbara (Glenn) Boicourt, Elaine (Robert) James, Robbin Rutland, and Rhonda (Ola) Rutland and his faithful companion of 26 years Nina Bobbitt.
He also leaves behind 35 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, 7 great-great children, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many dear family and friends.
