Nyree D. Parnell

Nyree D. Parnell

On August 28, 1973, Nyree entered this Life's Journey. She was the proud daughter of Annetta L. Parnell and Paul Barnett, who preceded her in death. She attended Warren Township Schools, where she received her elementary education and graduated from high school from Arsenal Technical High School at the age of seventeen. Before receiving her High School diploma, Nyree enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving in the Navy, on February 25, 1993, she gave birth to a beautiful little girl. Nyree loved playing volleyball and would often brag of how she was beating up on the guys in the barracks at some card game. Her field of training was in engineering. After a few years she was diagnosed with asthma and had to be discharged. Nyree professed her hope in Christ at an early age and joined Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church until the late ninety's when she ventured out to do the work of our Father at other churches. She was blessed with a handsome little boy on August 9, 2000. Nyree always did what she thought was right when it came to her children. She just enjoyed helping people. You could find her volunteering at her children's schools many days a week. Nyree joined the Body of Christ Community Church in 2002. She was very active in the Women's Ministry and was in the process of organizing the clothes pantry. The young people could always count on her support with transporting kids and thinking of fun things to do. She shared her technical skills with media with anyone needing help with their computers or cell phones. Nyree recently joined a ministry called 'Helping Hats' where she knitted gloves and hats for the homeless. She was a leader in the Vacation Bible School for the community at the B.O.C.C.C. for six years. She trained new volunteers every year and enjoyed every part of it. Nyree loved playing volleyball, baseball, bowling, movie night on Tuesdays at Angie's, going to the boat, playing cards and working with the New Hope Great Banquet, where she was a part of that community. There was not a holiday that would pass that you wouldn't find Nyree at the card table at the Richardson's with her cousins talking smack. On any given Monday night her and 'Her Cuz' Jeanette 'Her Ace' 'Her Road Dog', would talk smack too, while beating up on each other playing Dad. Nyree departed this Life's Journey, September 23, 2008. She leaves to cherish her memory, two children, Epiphany Parnell and Andrew Parnell-Pardue; mother, Annetta L. Parnell; brother, DonEarl L. Martin; uncle, Jack Parnell; aunts, Charlene Harden and Beverly Mosley; her 'sisters', Angie McManus (Curtis), Diane Fisher, Lusherl Hampton; a host of relatives and friends.
