Norman James Broaden Sr.

 

Mr. Norman James Broaden Sr affectionately known as “Stormin Norman” was born August 3, 1948, to the late James Broaden and Myrdis Bracey Broaden. He was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN.

He attended grade school and middle school at school #69 located on the corner of 34th and Keystone. He then continued his education at Shortridge HS where he was an All-American Athlete, participating in baseball, track and football.  After graduating from HS, he pursued a career at the United States Postal Service where he met his soul mate Emma Jean Moore Broaden. After resigning from the post office, he went to work at GM truck and bus. “Stormin Norman” later retired from there after 37 ½ years.

Granddaddy as his grandchildren affectionately called him, accepted Christ at an early age in life. He was united in holy matrimony on Thanksgiving Day 1973 to the love of his life Emma. Out of this union 2 children were born, Norman Jr and Nolanda Broaden.

“Stormin Norman” was a trendsetter from his style of dress to his love for jazz music, he even had professional jazz flute lessons. His favorite past time was watching The Indiana Pacers and Colts with his wife. Whether win or lose they were always avid supporters.

Norman departed this earthly life on the evening of July 4th, 2019 at the age of 70 years and 11 months. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Nolanda, step-son Billy Burks Jr and grandson Jerwan Willis-Smiley.

Norman leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Emma, mother in love Ruby Williams, brother Don Broaden (Vicki), sister Doretha Dillard, son Norman Jr. (Raushaunah) step children Anthony Willis and Pamela Willis-Bell (Brian), 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
