Mary Bethenia Dickerson

June 17, 1935 — April 5, 2020

Indianapolis, IN

Bethenia Ferrell, aka Mary B. Dickerson, a legal stenographer and musician passed away April 5, 2020.  She was a native of Syracuse, New York where she was employed at the United States Chief Attorney’s Office for 10 years before moving to Indianapolis, Indiana where she worked in the same capacity for 16 years with the Indiana State Attorney General’s Office.

Mary was a member and Sunday school teacher at Jones Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church.  She was also a life member of Local #3 American Federation of Musicians.  Her dearest hobbies included: volunteer work with senior citizens and visiting the sick and shut-in at nursing homes.  Mary enjoyed gardening, walking her dog and playing the piano.

She is preceded in death by her son, Joseph Jerome Dickerson and granddaughter, Carmella D. Bates.

Surviving are two sons, Troy Ferrell Dickerson and Tyrone Peter Dickerson; daughter, Ronna Jean Dickerson; three grandchildren: Christina “Cheeky” Bates, Cree Dickerson and Courtney Strayhorn; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, loving family and friends.

Mary loved us all dearly and will be greatly missed!
