Major “Skipper” Lee Hughley passed away January 24th, 2023, at the age of 81 surrounded by loved ones. He was a patriot of the Hughley family.

Major was born March 19, 1941, in Indianapolis to Lee Hughley and Helen Weaver. He attended Crispus Attucks High School and shortly after began his career with the Carrier Corporation before retiring at 55 years young.

Major, fondly known as “Skipper” fought his battle against Dementia for over 5 years.   He was lovingly adored by all the nurses and aids that cared for him as well as fellow residents.

Major lived his life well and was an extraordinarily fair and humble man with a passion for helping others and stray animals.  A greatly respected man of few words, lighthearted and peaceful nature. He radiated quirky, happy, energy which projected joy to everyone around him, leaving a lasting impression. His home spoke volumes about his love for his family as well as plants; he had an unbelievable ability to grow plants. For many years his bicycle was his primary mode of transportation and was known to ride all over the city of Indianapolis.

Major is immensely loved and survived by his children, John (Celecia) Hughley, Kimberly Hughley, Danny (Bobbie) Hughley, and Ryan Hughley (fiancé Betsy); 11 Grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and extended family & friends.

Major was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Hughley (1969) and Helen Weaver (1953); sisters, Wanda Williams (1984), Rosemary Johnson (1986), Sandra Glenn (2002); and his grandson Raylond Lamar Hughley (2013).
