Indianapolis, Indiana

Luther Lumpkins was born the fourth of ten children to Isaac and Francis (Shawbay) Lumpkins on July 29, 1926 in Wynne, Arkansas.  He attended a public school in Wynne, AR until he was hired in his early years by the United States of America RailRoad.

In July 1959 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Doris Turner and they were blessed with a blended family of twelve children. They were married for 43 years until her passing in 2003.

Luther worked for the RailRoad for over 20 years until he moved his family to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1969.  He was employed by Ford Motor Company as a Line Assembly Worker from 1969 until he retired in 1989.

He professed his hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized.  He and family joined Breeding Tabernacle Christian Methodist Church shortly after his move to Indianapolis, Indiana, and he was a faithful servant as a Steward, Financial Assistant in the financial department, Street Evangelist and Food Pantry Assistant for many years.

Luther was the patriarch of the family who he loved very much.  He loved taking long walks which helped keep him physically fit and healthy.  He loved family gatherings and seeing all his family members and friends celebrate and have a good time.
