Loretta Mae Holland-Blaylock

MRS LORETTA MAE HOLLAND BLAYLOCK, one of 11 children born to Robert and Sarah Chilton Phelps, was born on August 21, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Loretta attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1951.

LORETTA professed a hope in Christ at an early age. Loretta united in Holy Matrimony to Robert Holland and to this union four children were born. Robert passed away in 1989.  Loretta later then married Learmon Blaylock on April 13, 1996. They were married 23 years and enjoyed bowling and traveling together.

Learmon preceded Loretta in death three days prior to her passing.

LORETTA began a career at Lucent Technology (Western Electric) that spanned more than 19 years. Loretta was affectionately known by many family members as “Mutt” or “Aunt Mutt”. Loretta was such an advocate for learning that after retirement she worked with elementary aged children for seven years with AYS.

LORETTA was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Rita Catholic Church for 50 plus years.

Loretta volunteered for many activities throughout the Parish and was a big supporter for the Youth Ministry. She was a faithful volunteer and participant of vacation bible school and always gave her time and treasurer to the Church and the Ladies Auxiliary. Known by many as “Lady Loretta” she was a faithful member of Knights of Peter Claver, Ladies Auxiliary, and 3rd Degree of Christ the King Court #97. Loretta was coming upon her 25th year of service to the Noble Order. Loretta was loyal and carried a smile in which her caring spirit would exude through when she entered a room.

LORETTA was passionate about baking. She enjoyed making wedding cakes and rolls. Loretta was also an active member of St. Vincent DePaul Society & Hospitality Committee. Additionally, Loretta was a devoted member to the Ladies of Grace, Searcy L Greenwell, Chapter 14, 4th Degree Ladies of Grace, where she previously held the position of Faithful Steward.

LORETTA enjoyed bowling and was an avid bowler for over 20 years.

LORETTA was known for her loving nature, if Loretta was with us, she would address you as “Precious” or “Sweetie.”

LORETTA leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Lynda Brasher (Coulas), Vetta Holland-Scott (Garcia);  sons Tony Holland (Annette); Darrell Holland; Ivan Holland; three sisters Gloria Helm; Juanita Catlett; Effew Moore (Marvell); thirteen grandchildren (three have preceded her in death), thirty-six great-grand children, six great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and cherished friends.
