Joyce was born on March 6, 1946, to John Henry Moore and Jennie Bell Hill Moore in Huntsville, Alabama. She completed her education in local area schools, as well as professed her love for Christ and Baptism at an early age in her hometown. She and her family later settled in Indianapolis.

Joyce was a wonderful cook, and avid gardener and lover of nature. She often prepared Thanksgiving meals to share with her family, baked delicious pies to distribute at Christmas time, and had large family barbecues on the Fourth of July. Joyce has never strayed away from her country roots, often growing fresh greens and carrots in her own garden, as well as making homemade jams, preserves and cobblers from the fruits of nearby trees. A lover of nature, Joyce was also maintained furry friends, living many of her years with Chopper, an injured Yorkie whom she rescued and revived from the nearby woods.

Joyce was generous in her time and her talents, often opening her home to her grandkids, or knitting blankets, scarves, and mittens as tokens of love. Professionally, Joyce worked for 15 years as a machine operator at Stewart Warner's in Indianapolis. Early in life, she worked as a Nurse's Aide at General Hospital in Downtown Indianapolis.

Joyce was the mother of four children - three daughters and one son. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers - Freeman Moore and James Moore, and her second eldest daughter, Veronica Tracy. But she is lovingly survived by daughters Deborah Sowell and Angela Terrell, son James Terrell, 10 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.
