Geneva Miller

July 17, 1954 — January 24, 2020

Indianapolis, IN

Geneva Miller was privileged to return to the arms of the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2020 at the age of 65, she has now been re-united in Heaven with God and her loving family that passed before her. Geneva was a positive influence, speaking constantly on the goodness of Jesus while trusting in God’s Divine Purpose in her life.

Geneva was born July 17, 1954 in Canton, Mississippi to the late Heron Miller and Phyllis Green-Miller. Geneva was raised in Canton by her uncle and aunt, the late Marvin and Ida Dixon.

Geneva confessed her belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. L.R Perry at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Camden Mississippi.

Geneva attended Madison County schools and graduated from Velma Jackson high school in 1972. She attended Jackson State University in Jackson Mississippi and received her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1976. She made the dean’s list for her Superior Academic Achievement, and later went on to earn her Master of Science in Education from Indiana University in 1987.

Geneva started her teaching career at Indianapolis Public Schools in 1982 as a Kindergarten teacher where she would spend the next 31 years mentoring and molding young minds that suited her servant heart. She instilled in her students to do what is right and do what’s good. Geneva’s life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Geneva was an active member and

Geneva’s favorite hobbies were fellowshipping with some of her close IPS friends/sisters the “Faithful Friends”, movie dates, eating out and birthday club. She loved going back to Canton and spending time with family and friends. She loved to shop, and she loved to give. She gave of herself often and always remained humble. Geneva loved to travel, she traveled with her niece often. She loved going back to Canton spending quality time with family and friends.

Geneva is preceded in death by her parents Heron Miller and Phyllis Miller Burts, brother Johnnie Payton Jr., sister Ann Harris and Mary Miller Holloway and her uncle and aunt Marvin and Ida Dixon.

She leaves to cherish her memory, five brothers, Henry (Lee Ella), of Canton, MS; John Miller, Julius Burts, Roy Burts of Indianapolis, IN; Jimmy (Lynn) Miller of McPherson, KS; a host of nieces, nephews and relatives
