Ernestine "Nana" (Harrison) Alexander

Ernestine (Harrison) Alexander was born March 22, 1952 in Sebastopol, Mississippi to Charles Harrison and Dora (Johnson) Harrison.

“NaNa”, as she was affectionately called, attended Indianapolis Public School #32 and was a graduate of Crispus Attucks High School.

Ernestine was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Johnny Alexander.

She received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a very early age at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor David Lee.  “NaNa” later joined the Greater St.  Matthew Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Johnny Douglas where she was a faithful member of the Mothers’ Board and kitchen staff until her lengthy illness began to fail her.

“NaNa” was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who loved her family and friends dearly. She always valued the close relationship that she shared with her two sons, Kevin and Corey. “NaNa” also loved being a grandmother to her two grandsons and would kill a rock over all four of her boys.

She had a love for cooking, which led to her career at MCL restaurant, Carmel Care Center and Traditions at Solana, from where she retired in 2021.

Ernestine (Harrison) Alexander “NaNa” departed this life on Friday, April 15, 2022 at the age of 70 years. Her husband, Johnny Alexander; parents, Charles and Dora Harrison; brothers: Burlin Griffin, Eddie Griffin, Willie Griffin, Hubert Griffin, Jerry Harrison and John Smith; and sister, Wanda Harrison, all preceded her in death.

She leaves cherished memories to her sons, Kevin and Corey Holder; grandsons, Wayne and Taylor Holder; six great-grandchildren; sisters: Marlene “May” Anthony, Mary “Put” Cates and Dora “Soyie” Sheets; brothers: J.C. Griffin (Judy), Paul “Corn” Harrison (Francine), William “Bill” Matheny and Joseph “NeNe” Matheny; a host of nieces, nephews, loving family, friends and Church family.
