Eddie A Reid Ii

Eddie Albert Reid was born January 24, 1970, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Gladys Nora Johnson Reid and Decorris Lawrence Reid, Sr. Eddie was the youngest of three siblings: Gladys Bonita Reid Odaja (José) and Decorris Lawrence Reid, Jr. He grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana where he attended Indianapolis Public Schools 53, 106, and alumnus of Arlington High School class of 1988. Eddie also attended Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. He participated in track and field, basketball and football during grade school and high school years. He was a pretty good athlete.
While very young he became a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He enjoyed being an usher during his years in grade school and high school at Mt. Carmel. In 1996 he married Cynthia Williams Reid. To this union they were blessed with three children: Eddie Albert Reid III “Tre”, Jalin Alexander Reid and Cheitric Armand Reid. His family was a source of pride and joy to him, and he enjoyed talking of positive things his sons were doing such as being on the honor roll in school and exceeding in various sports! He was also excited to share Cynthia’s excelling in professional things of her choice and job experiences. His love for his profession as a Master barber was his passion. He enjoyed being up-to-date on current events, sports and the latest movies to be a source of conversation with his clients.
Eddie attended St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, NC for nearly two years before he started barbering school in North Carolina and completed his barbering education in Indianapolis. He was a licensed professional, achieving the title of Master Barber after 26 years. He was excited to assume the challenge of operating his own barber and beauty shop, “Personal Touch”. He found cutting hair to be an enjoyable profession. He worked at the US Postal Service, Hostess Bakery and several other jobs in addition to barbering.
Eddie enjoyed cooking and providing care for his sons at home and taking them to school or other necessary places. He laughed sometimes at the name his boys gave the breakfast sandwiches he made for them while waiting for the school bus. His love for his family was seen in discussions and talks with his parents and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 24 years, Cynthia; three sons “Tre”, Jalin, and Cheitric, mother: Dr. Gladys Reid; sister: Gladys Bonita Odaja, and brother: Decorris Lawrence Reid, Jr., his in-laws: Mr. Robert and Mrs. Catherine Williams, two sisters-in-law Charlotte Williams and Carla Plowden, one brother-in-law, Terry Williams and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends who loved him dearly and looked to him for an excellent haircut. His father, Decorris Lawrence Reid, Sr. preceded him in death.
Eddie earned the name of Uncle E by students when he worked at a barbershop near A&T University in Greensboro, NC. This became a family name that non-family members called him with affection.
His bright smile and sense of humor was a source of sunshine to many. He made some chuckle at his remarks. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and barber clients who always knew Uncle E would give them a professional haircut.
