Mrs. Dorothy M. Stevens was born on July 21, 1935, the daughter of Jeanette Smith and Henry White Sr., in Vicksburg, Mississippi.Dorothy received her education at Arsenal Technical High School. She moved from Vicksburg,Mississippi to make a home in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was united in holy matrimony to Boyd Stevens, Sr.Dorothy went to Nursing School at Central State Hospital, then later went on to work at Central State Hospital. She held two jobs at the same time and also worked at Winona Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She was an exemplary employee, loved all her patients and took great pride in her work.Dorothy confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at College Avenue Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.Dorothy was loved by all her children, family and friends. She was also loved by all of her children’s friends and became known as mom’s to so many and Mrs. Stevens to others. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She was known for her beautiful smile, kindness, cooking skills and delicious food.She would prepare all the food and would not let anyone assist her. She was best known for her delicious dressing she made on Thanksgiving Holiday. She was so generous and thoughtful.She opened her home to many and would never let anyone go hungry. Her interest also included gardening. She loved her plants. She had a growing thumb. She could make any plant grow. She devoted much of her time as a caregiver to her grandmother, until her grandmother passed away at the age of 102 years old.Dorothy was a wonderful mother that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. She loved her children and adored all of her grandchildren. She had a pure soul that was unlike any other. Her life was a living example of Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32- ’’And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”Mrs Dorothy M. Stevens went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 8, 2021 at the age of86 years, 2 months, and 17 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanette Smith and Henry White Sr., grandparents, Virginia Williams and Elijah Williams Sr., sister Mary Ann Williams, brothers, Henry White Jr., James White Sr., and Edgar Smith Sr., nephews, James White Jr., Edgar Smith Jr., grandson, Anthony Allen Jr., and best friend Mary Helen Maxey.She leaves to cherish her dear memories sons, Boyd Stevens, William Collins (Jennifer),daughters, Debbie Maxey, Diana Hackney, Wanda Jermmott, Susan Smith, Angela Collins and Shantel Stevens, twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, twenty-three great great grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews, special cousin, Reverend Roosevelt James anda host of other relative and friends.
