David Cook

David Cook, Jr., age 84, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2015.Mr. Cook was born in Smith Grove, Kentucky where he attended elementary school before moving to Richmond, Indiana with his family. He attended and graduated from Richmond Senior High School where he played football. He also attended Kentucky State University, Earlham College and Mortuary School in New York City. He served in the army during the Korean War and received an Honorable Discharge from the service. He was a very friendly and outgoing person. and he enjoyed traveling the world. He was owner of several funeral homes in New York and Indiana. As an entrepreneur his last venture was purchasing Bell & Brackens Funeral Home in Terre Haute which was re-named Anderson Funeral Services when it was sold to his sister in the late 1980's. He remained active in the business until his decline in health dictated his retirement. He was a very generous person, and enjoyed patronizing the 'Jazz on the Avenue' and supporting black owned businesses. He leaves to cherish his memory , one brother, John Cook of Richmond; one sister, Evelyn Anderson of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Arlera Cook of Richmond; nieces: Jeanie Nelson of Dayton, Mable Turner (Chester) of Smith Grove, KY and Vicki Thomas of Indianapolis; and nephew Hehimetu Ra Enkamiti (formally Lee Cook, Jr.); a host of great nieces and great nephews, other relatives and friends.Family and Friends Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19th from 11 am until 12 noon at Lavenia and Summers Home for Funerals-Chapel of Faith 5811 E. 38th Street. Funeral Service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Marion National V.A. Cemetery.
