DAVID ALEX WOODRUFF, was born September 25, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ollie “Buck” Woodruff and Grace M. (Howard) Palmer.
He received his elementary and middle school education through Holy Angels Catholic School in Indianapolis, IN. David attended Gibault School for Boys Military School in Terre Haute, IN. In 1969 he joined the United States Army and obtained a rank of E4 Specialist while serving in Vietnam and Korea.
Mr. Woodruff was united in Holy Matrimony with Pamela Davis in 1988. They have been sweethearts since age 14 and 16 and was affectionately known as “Crockett” and “Peaches”.
David was baptized in 1954 at Holy Angels Catholic Church. He later professed a hope in Christ when he joined the fellowship of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church and participated in the Men’s Choir.
Mr. Woodruff relocated to Georgia after military service and enjoyed the southern lifestyle. After relocating to Indiana, he joined the building facilities staff at Conseco Insurance, and he volunteered with Conseco to rebuild Happy Hollow camp and helped with the Indy 500. In his most recent position, he was employed as dedicated security officer until his final days.
Grilling Bar-B-Que has always been his passion and he has maintained a reputation as “THE GRILL MASTER” among his family and friends. Other entertaining activities were joking with family and friends, road traveling, attending the Kentucky Derby, visiting Free Hills, Tennessee, visiting friends and family in Georgia, fishing, watching boxing and football, singing, being around family and friends as well as serving and uplifting others. As a youth he enjoyed ice skating. He also enjoyed time with his friends: Carl T. Howard, John Copeland and Daryl Townsend and father-in-law, Donald Davis.
DAVID ALEX WOODRUFF departed this life on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the at the age of 69 years, 4 months and 7 days. His parents, Ollie Woodruff and Grace Palmer; brothers, Vincent Palmer and Norman Palmer; and sister, Penny Woodruff all preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory to his loving wife, Pamela M. Woodruff; children: Anthony Woodruff Sr. (Sarah), Darrius Woodruff (Evette), April Woodruff, John Woodruff, David Reid Jr. (Kanika) and Chequita Andre (Osnel); brothers; Grover, Joseph, Terry and Jason (Veronique); sisters: Gayland, Betty and Jennifer (James); uncle, Forest (Sandra); sister-in-law, Cheryl Palmer; twenty-three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
