Betty J. Brinkley

April 3, 1934 — February 17, 2022

Indianapolis, IN

BETTY JEAN BRINKLEY was born on April 3, 1934 to Arphenus and Margaret Pepper in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Betty was just 14 years old when she caught the eye of William Brinkley who lived next door. Soon he strolled up to her home and asked her to go to the movies. She promptly said yes, and that was the first yes. Betty said yes again at the age of 17 when she married William.

It was the beginning of nearly 74 years together, with six children coming from the marriage.

She had a generous heart and would always think of her children and provide where needed.

Betty worked at RCA from where she retired after 25 years of dedicated service.

Betty was active throughout her life. She loved jazz music and her favorite artist was Kenny G. She loved to play cards, such as Poker, Dad and Pokeno. Betty also enjoyed Bingo and many casino bus trips as well as the local casinos. She was also an avid reader and loved going to the Goodwill to search out bargains as well as going to many garage sales.

She would still blush and laugh whenever William would flirt with her, which was often. It was magical to see them together like that. They were like the left and right shoe, they matched so well together and their love was strong, sweet and rare.

Betty Jean Brinkley entered eternal peace on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Her beloved husband, William; grandchildren, Ieshia Brinkley Sanders and Ryan Brinkley Cox; brothers: Stanley, Michael and Arthur Lee Pepper; and sister, Patricia Ann Shannon all preceded her in death.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory six children: Janet Brinkley, Walter Brinkley, William Brinkley Jr. (Hazel), Valetta Brinkley, Maria Cox (Ballard) and Brenda Brinkley; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Ruth A. Lyles and Marva Pepper; three brothers: Nathaniel “Sunny”, Victor and Anthony “Tony” Pepper; sister in-law, Loretta Hatchett; along with a host of nephews, nieces, loving family and friends.

Betty’s presence, essence and generous character will forever be missed as well as her strength, laughter, and wisdom. We are so blessed and honored to have had such a wonderful mother. God knew what he was doing when he gave us Mom.
